She Loves You

Personnel:

Maeli Goren: Lead Vocals
Brad Wilson: Lead Vocals
Cliff Wilson: Guitars, Bass, Background Vocals
Paul Enuco: Drums

Why this song is on the album:

Brad and Maeli quickly claimed this song for their duet.  This was another song the Beatles performed in their American debut on the Ed Sullivan Show on Feb. 9, 1964.  [See the notes on I Wanna Hold Your Hand.]

Performance notes:

As with many songs on this album, I initially recorded some placeholder vocals.  And, as with every such song, the new vocals are much better than mine.  Brad and Maeli bring the youthful verve the song requires. We recorded each of them separately, then also did a couple of takes with them singing together in one same mic.  The final mix includes both types of tracks.

I sang along on the Yeah Yeahs, just to give a third vocal timbre to the mix.

There’s a small trip up on the lyrics in the second verse – very common on Beatles albums!

How it’s different from the Beatles’ version:

The Beatles’ version propelled them to worldwide stardom.  Ours is pleasant to listen to.

Fun Fact:

Paul McCartney’s father suggested that they sing “She loves you, yes, yes, yes.”  Dads!
